STUDIO — interior architecture & decoration

Cotignac · Provence

Designing space,
and bringing it to life.

COTTE Studio is led by Matthias Maboungou, interior architect. Based in Cotignac, in the heart of Provence, the studio creates bespoke spaces for private and professional clients alike. It works across both disciplines — architectural design and decoration — either together as a complete project or separately. The studio works throughout the Var — from Toulon to Fréjus, taking in Hyères, Brignoles, Saint-Maximin, Lorgues, Draguignan, Sainte-Maxime and Saint-Tropez.

Our approach is direct: a distinctive style, the right materials, and everyday use considered down to the last detail. We believe an ambitious project can remain accessible, and that a well-designed place is felt before it is understood.

Projects

01

Picotte Provence

Restaurant · Provence

The spaces were entirely reconceived to ease circulation and increase seating capacity. The interior brings together several influences — Italian delicatessen, the Mediterranean, Morocco, Greece and Bali — in a deliberately eclectic yet coherent composition. The zellige bar and marble floor give the whole its structure. Outside, the terrace carries this identity through, with banquettes upholstered in carefully chosen Provençal fabrics for true visual continuity.

02

Picotte Paris

Restaurant · Paris

For Picotte Paris, COTTE Studio reworked the restaurant's spatial composition to optimise circulation, seating and capacity. The project rests on a dialogue between raw materials and more refined details: stone walls, Haussmann-era mouldings, velvet, aged leather and glossy blue porcelain stoneware. The bar, the defining element of the room, reinterprets the aesthetic of post-war bistros in a contemporary, timeless language.

03

House in the Dordogne

Ongoing project · Dordogne

Converting this former barn in the Dordogne called for a complete restructuring of its volumes, with the creation of two levels and an entirely new interior layout. The project showcases the original bread oven and brings together travertine, wood and cream tones in a warm atmosphere. A glazed footbridge, bespoke openings and built-in furniture add a refined, contemporary language while preserving the architectural identity of the original building.

04

Villa Reflet

Student project · EDAI · Toulon

The renovation of Villa Reflet centres on fluid circulation, the porosity between inside and outside, and the enhancement of the existing curved volumes. The spaces were entirely redistributed and extended by a terrace, a summer kitchen and a garden conceived as a continuation of the home. Terracotta tiles, zellige, natural wood, built-in masonry furniture and bespoke joinery compose a Mediterranean, contemporary language deeply connected to the landscape.

05

Paris Apartment

Student project · EDAI

The renovation of this 37 m² Parisian apartment was built around making the most of volume and light. Integrated storage and bespoke furniture free up space and give structure to everyday use. A curved glass partition connects the bedroom and the living area, letting natural light flow through. Wood, green tones and rounded forms create a warm, graphic and contemporary language.
